Christian Kerez
Founder of Christian Kerez Zürich AG
Christian Kerez is a Swiss architect born in 1962 in Maracaibo, Venezuela, renowned for his minimalist and structurally expressive designs that challenge conventional architectural norms. After graduating from ETH Zurich in 1991, he initially pursued architectural photography before founding his own practice in Zurich in 1993. Kerez’s notable works include the Leutschenbach School in Zurich, characterized by its steel lattice structure and rooftop gymnasium, and the House with One Wall, a two-family residence defined by a single concrete partition. His experimental approach is further exemplified by “Incidental Space,” the Swiss Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, which explored the boundaries of spatial perception. Beyond practice, Kerez has been a professor at ETH Zurich since 2009 and held the Kenzo Tange Chair at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in 2012–2013. His contributions to architecture have earned him several accolades, including the Swiss Art Award and the European Steel Design Award.
