Todd Saunders is a Canadian architect based in Bergen, Norway, internationally recognized for his sculptural, minimalist buildings that harmonize with the dramatic landscapes of the North. Born in Gander, Newfoundland, he studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and McGill University, later traveling extensively through Europe before founding Saunders Architecture in 1998. His practice blends contemporary form with traditional sensibilities, using natural materials and striking geometries to create works that are both grounded and visionary. Saunders is best known for projects across Norway, Canada, and other global locations that respect vernacular heritage while offering bold new interpretations. In addition to teaching at institutions such as Cornell and Yale, he contributes to architectural discourse through publications like SHARE: Conversations about Contemporary Architecture – The Nordic Countries, showcasing his deep engagement with design culture across regions.
