Pieter Vermeersch
Painter of Time, Space, and Material Transcendence
Pieter Vermeersch (b. 1973, Kortrijk, Belgium) is a contemporary artist renowned for his exploration of the boundaries between painting, architecture, and photography. His work delves into the interplay of time, space, and materiality, creating immersive experiences that challenge traditional perceptions of art. Vermeersch’s practice encompasses gradient paintings, site-specific installations, and interventions on unconventional surfaces like marble and architectural walls. His meticulous approach often involves translating photographic sources into seamless color transitions, blurring the lines between abstraction and representation. He lives and works between Brussels, Belgium, and Turin, Italy. Vermeersch’s artistic journey began with studies in visual arts at Sint-Lucas School of Arts in Ghent, followed by a postgraduate program at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts (HISK) in Antwerp.
