Santiago Cirugeda
Architect, Urban Activist, and Founder of Recetas Urbanas
Santiago Cirugeda is a Spanish architect renowned for his unconventional approach to urban planning and architecture. He is the founder of Recetas Urbanas (“”Urban Recipes””), a collective that merges architecture, activism, and legal strategy to create participatory and socially engaged urban interventions. Cirugeda’s work often operates in the gray areas of legality, utilizing temporary structures and repurposed materials to address community needs and challenge bureaucratic constraints.
After studying architecture at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (ESARQ) in Barcelona, Cirugeda began developing projects that addressed urban shortcomings, focusing on ephemeral architecture, recycling, and strategies for urban occupation and intervention. His initiatives frequently involve community participation, aiming to empower citizens to take an active role in shaping their urban environments.
