
Hashim Sarkis – Panelist
Founding Principal of Hashim Sarkis Studios, LLC
Hashim Sarkis is an architect, educator, and founding Principal of Hashim Sarkis Studios, established in 1998. His work bridges architectural practice, urban research, and academic inquiry, with a particular focus on the relationship between architecture, landscape, urbanism, and cultural context. Sarkis studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he received his Master of Architecture with distinction and later completed a PhD in architecture. Before founding his own studio, he worked with several design practices, including Rafael Moneo’s office on the Beirut Souks. Alongside his practice, Sarkis is also a distinguished academic. He taught at Harvard GSD from 1995 to 2014, where he also served as Aga Khan Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism in Muslim Societies and directed the Aga Khan Program. In 2014, he was appointed Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at MIT. He is the author and editor of numerous books on architecture, urbanism, and the modern city, and has lectured and served on juries internationally.
