Wolfgang Buttress – Salt Guest
Founder of Wolfgang Buttress Studio
Wolfgang Buttress is an acclaimed British artist and sculptor whose practice is defined by a deep fascination with the “natural” world and the translation of scientific data into immersive, multi-sensory experiences. After earning a degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University, he established a multi-disciplinary studio that collaborates with physicists, musicians, and architects to “illuminate the invisible.” His work often integrates light and soundscapes that respond to real-time environmental stimuli—most famously in The Hive (originally the UK Pavilion for the 2015 Milan Expo), which uses the vibrations of a living bee colony to dictate its atmosphere. Across four decades, Buttress has produced large-scale public installations on four continents, consistently exploring themes of the sublime and the interconnectedness of human and non-human life.
