Stéphanie Bru
Co-founder of BRUTHER
Stéphanie Bru is a French architect and educator, best known as co-founder of the Paris- and Zurich-based studio BRUTHER together with Alexandre Theriot. Emerging during the economic recession of the late 2000s, BRUTHER developed an architectural approach defined by adaptability, precision, and openness, treating architecture as a versatile tool capable of responding to diverse social, political, and spatial conditions. Their work balances strategy and form, rigor and freedom, while engaging critically with contemporary urban and ecological challenges.
BRUTHER’s projects have been widely published internationally, including monographs and features in 2G, El Croquis, and A+U. The studio has received several prestigious distinctions, including three Équerre d’Argent prizes (2016, 2018, and 2020), the Dejean Prize in 2018, and the Swiss Architectural Award. In 2018, BRUTHER was also nominated for the Schelling Architecture Prize.
Alongside her professional practice, Bru has taught internationally at leading architecture schools. She was a visiting professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2022 and served as Full Professor at Universität der Künste Berlin between 2021 and 2025. Her teaching focuses on the contradictions and instabilities of contemporary society, encouraging students to critically engage with the political, economic, and ecological forces shaping architecture today.
