Founder and Director of JDSA
Julien De Smedt is a Belgian architect, designer, and founder of JDS Architects, with offices in Brussels, Copenhagen, and Paris. Known for his experimental and forward-thinking approach, his work explores new architectural models that combine social, urban, and environmental concerns with bold formal innovation. Before founding JDS in 2006, he worked at OMA with Rem Koolhaas and co-founded the influential practice PLOT alongside Bjarke Ingels.
De Smedt’s internationally recognized projects include the Mountain Dwellings and VM Houses in Copenhagen, the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo, and Kalvebod Waves in Copenhagen. Alongside practice, he has taught and lectured widely at institutions including MIT, Rice University, KTH Stockholm, and Syracuse University. His work has received numerous international awards, including the Maaskant Prize and the Henning Larsen Prize, and has been widely published and exhibited internationally.
