
Amélia Brandão Costa
Architect, Curator, and Educator
Amélia Brandão Costa is a Portuguese architect, curator, and educator. She studied architecture at Universidade Lusíada do Porto, furthered her studies at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, and pursued design at Domus Academy in Milan. She also holds a postgraduate degree in Real Estate Management from the Instituto de Artes e Ciências do Porto. In 2007, she co-founded the architecture practice Architecture Matters with Rodrigo da Costa Lima. Their work spans from small-scale projects to public buildings and urban plans, and has been awarded and exhibited internationally. Amélia is also the founder and editor of Indexnewspaper, which has been recognized by institutions like MoMA in New York. She has taught and lectured at various architecture schools worldwide, including Yale School of Architecture, where she served as the William Henry Bishop Visiting Professor of Architectural Design. Additionally, she is a founding director of the Porto Academy, an international summer school in Porto dedicated to architectural education.
