
Benedetta Tagliabue

Benedetta Tagliabue is an acclaimed Italian architect based in Barcelona, renowned for her expressive, context-sensitive architecture that blends tradition with innovation. Born in Milan in 1963, she graduated from the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) in 1989 and later co-founded the firm Miralles Tagliabue EMBT with her late partner Enric Miralles in 1994. Under her leadership, EMBT has delivered landmark projects such as the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh, the Santa Caterina Market in Barcelona, and the Spanish Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Her work is celebrated for its organic forms, material richness, and deep engagement with cultural and urban contexts. Tagliabue is also active in academia and architectural juries, including the Pritzker Prize jury, and has received numerous honors, including the RIBA Stirling Prize and the RIBA Charles Jencks Award.
