Georg Schmidthals is a German architect and partner at GRAFT, a highly acclaimed, multidisciplinary studio known for its experimental, forward-looking designs across architecture, urban planning, and social activism. He earned his degree in architecture from the Technical University of Cottbus in 2005, following studies at the Technical University of Graz. Early in his career, Schmidthals built a robust international profile, holding senior positions at the prominent Berlin studio J. Mayer H., where he contributed to landmark projects like Seville’s Metropol Parasol, as well as LENS°ASS in Brussels, and later founding his own practice, AND’ROL, in Belgium. In 2015, he joined GRAFT’s main office in Berlin, transitioning to partner in 2018 alongside founders Lars Krückeberg, Wolfram Putz, and Thomas Willemeit. At GRAFT, Schmidthals plays a pivotal role in managing human resources and business development while overseeing major large-scale urban developments and high-profile adaptive reuse projects, including Berlin’s Eiswerk complex, the Am Karlsbad historic-modern campus, and the award-winning Graftlab headquarters.
