Giulia de Appolonia – Participant
Founder & Principal Architect of GDA
Giulia de Appolonia is an Italian architect and educator known for her rigorous, structuralist approach to public and institutional architecture. Based in Brescia and Lisbon, she has developed a career defined by “architectural clarity,” where the aesthetic of a building is derived directly from its structural logic and material honesty. After spending significant years in Portugal working alongside the legendary Pritzker Prize-winner Eduardo Souto de Moura, she established her own practice, GDA – Officina di Architettura. Her work is characterized by a “reductive” elegance—stripping away ornament to focus on the interplay of light, mass, and void. Notable projects include the Science Center in Bragança and several high-profile university buildings and sports complexes across Europe.
