Haegue Yang – Multisensory Artist and Sculptor of Hybrid Narratives
Haegue Yang (b. 1971, Seoul) is a South Korean artist renowned for her immersive installations and sculptures that blend industrial materials with sensory experiences. After earning her BFA from Seoul National University in 1994, she pursued further studies at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, where she later became a professor of Fine Arts. Yang currently lives and works between Berlin and Seoul. Yang’s work is characterized by the use of everyday objects—such as Venetian blinds, fans, and scent emitters—recontextualized to explore themes of identity, displacement, and community. Her installations often engage multiple senses, incorporating light, sound, and scent to create environments that challenge viewers’ perceptions.
