
Iñaqui Carnicero
Architect, Educator, and Advocate for Adaptive Design
Iñaqui Carnicero (b. 1973, Madrid) is a Spanish architect and educator renowned for his innovative approach to architecture that emphasizes adaptability, reuse, and contextual sensitivity. He earned his architecture degree from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM) in 1998 and later completed his Ph.D. with a dissertation exploring the works of Louis Kahn and Robert Venturi in Rome. His academic career includes over a decade as an associate professor at ETSAM and visiting positions at institutions such as Cornell University, Columbia University, and the California College of the Arts. Carnicero’s professional practice is marked by a series of award-winning projects that reflect his commitment to sustainable and contextually responsive design. Notable works include the restoration of an Arab tower in Guadalajara, the design of the CEU Polytechnic University building, and the transformation of a former slaughterhouse into the Matadero-Madrid cultural center.
