Jennifer Bonner/Mall – Salt Guest
Founder of MALL
Jennifer Bonner is a pioneering American architect and creative director known for her playful and conceptually rigorous approach to “ordinary architecture.” Born in Alabama and an alumna of Auburn University’s Rural Studio, she holds a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. In 2009, she founded MALL (an acronym that playfully shifts between meanings like Mass Architectural Loopty Loops), a practice that challenges traditional design through the lens of popular culture, representation, and innovative materiality. Her work often utilizes cross-laminated timber (CLT) and investigates architectural typologies like gable roofs and sandwiches, most notably in her “Haus Gables” project in Atlanta. A recipient of the Progressive Architecture (P/A) Award and a United States Artist Fellow, Bonner’s practice bridges the gap between high-end academic theory and the vibrant, often overlooked aesthetics of the American South.
