João Luís Carrilho da Graça is a Portuguese architect known for his refined, contextually sensitive architecture that emphasizes clarity, light, and spatial harmony. Born in Portalegre in 1952, he has played a central role in contemporary Portuguese architecture. His notable works include the Knowledge of the Seas Pavilion at Expo ’98 in Lisbon, the Lisbon Cruise Terminal, and the Theatre and Auditorium in Poitiers, France. Carrilho da Graça has received numerous awards, including the Pessoa Prize and the AICA Award, and is also a respected educator, having taught at the Faculty of Architecture in Lisbon and internationally.
