
Ma Yansong
Founder and Principal Partner at MAD
Ma Yansong is a leading voice in contemporary architecture and the founder of MAD, a practice known for its futuristic, organic designs that seek harmony between society, the city, and nature. He is the first Chinese architect to design major landmark buildings overseas, including cultural institutions. Since his early project “Floating Island” (2002), Ma has explored visionary approaches to urban living through architecture, exhibitions, and publications. His work has earned global recognition, including the Architectural League of New York’s Young Architects Award (2006), RIBA International Fellowship (2010), and inclusion in Fast Company’s “100 Most Creative People in Business” (2014). He holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University and a Bachelor’s from the Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture. He has taught at leading institutions including Tsinghua University, USC, and will serve as the Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor at Yale School of Architecture in Fall 2024.
