Manuel Aires Mateus is a Portuguese architect and co-founder of Aires Mateus Architects, alongside his brother Francisco Aires Mateus. The Lisbon-based practice is known for its minimalist, sculptural architecture that explores light, void, and material purity. Their work spans residential, cultural, and institutional projects across Europe and beyond, including the EDP Headquarters in Lisbon and the Grândola Meeting Center. Aires Mateus also teaches architecture at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio and is celebrated for a design philosophy that blends modernist rigor with poetic spatial sensitivity.
