
Salvador Rueda
Urban Ecologist and Architect of the Superblock Model
Salvador Rueda Palenzuela (b. 1953, Lleida, Spain) is a pioneering urban ecologist and one of the most influential figures in sustainable urbanism today. With academic backgrounds in biology and psychology from the University of Barcelona, and diplomas in environmental engineering and energy management, Rueda has dedicated his career to rethinking the relationship between cities, people, and the environment. As the founder and former director of the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona (2000–2020), and currently as president of the Fundación Ecología Urbana y Territorial, Rueda has led transformative projects that integrate ecology, mobility, and public space planning.
