Thom Mayne – Salt Guest
Founding Design Director of Morphosis Architects
Thom Mayne is an influential American architect and educator known for his bold, iconoclastic designs and his role in shaping contemporary architectural discourse. After co-founding the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in 1972—an institution created to challenge traditional pedagogical norms—he established Morphosis Architects, an interdisciplinary practice that has produced some of the most conceptually complex and sculptural buildings of the last few decades. His work, which includes the Caltrans District 7 Headquarters, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and 41 Cooper Square, is characterized by its layered forms and innovative use of technology. Beyond his practice, Mayne is a Distinguished Professor at UCLA and the director of The Now Institute, where he focuses on the intersection of urban planning and strategic social thinking.
