Toni Gironès Saderra
Principal of Estudi d’Arquitectura Toni Gironès
Toni Gironès is a Spanish architect and educator with a PhD in Architecture from Barcelona Tech (UPC) and a degree from the Vallès Architecture School (ETSAV). Since founding his practice in 1993, he has developed a body of work rooted in the relationship between architecture, topography, and human experience—focusing not on the object of architecture itself, but on the act of inhabiting. His projects, including the acclaimed Lleida Climate Museum (2008–2018), reflect a deep sensitivity to place and nature, integrating spatial, environmental, and cultural dimensions. He has received major recognitions such as the 2019 Spanish National Architecture Award, the FAD Awards, and nominations for the Mies van der Rohe and Swiss Architecture Awards. Gironès has exhibited three times at the Venice Architecture Biennale and was part of the Golden Lion-winning Spanish Pavilion in 2016. Alongside practice, he has held teaching roles at ETSAV, URV, and the Polytechnic University of Milan, and frequently lectures internationally on architecture, heritage, and landscape. In 2023, he and a research team from Milan won First Prize ex aequo in the UNESCO competition to improve the Acropolis of Athens and its surroundings.
