Founder and Director of IBUKU
Elora Hardy is the founder and Creative Director of IBUKU, the Bali-based design studio internationally recognized for pioneering bamboo architecture as a sustainable and high-performance construction system. Originally trained as a textile designer, Hardy began her career in New York’s fashion industry before shifting her focus toward architecture and ecological design. In 2010, she established IBUKU with the ambition of redefining the possibilities of natural materials in contemporary construction.
Under her leadership, IBUKU has completed more than 200 projects worldwide, including iconic structures such as Sharma Springs and The Arc at Green School in Bali. Her work combines traditional craftsmanship with engineering innovation, creating spaces that merge architecture, landscape, and local material knowledge into immersive environmental experiences. Through her practice, Hardy has become a leading advocate for regenerative design and carbon-sequestering construction methods, helping position bamboo as a viable material for the future of sustainable architecture.
