Iwan Baan – Panelist
Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects
Born in 1975, Dutch photographer Iwan Baan is renowned for his unique architectural photography, which focuses on how individuals and communities interact with and humanize their built environments. After studying documentary photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Baan brought an accessible, untrained architectural perspective to his work, capturing human ingenuity in informal communities—such as his Golden Lion-winning series on Caracas’s Torre David. His ability to give spaces a distinct narrative and sense of place has made him a highly influential figure in contemporary architecture, leading to prestigious accolades like the inaugural Julius Shulman award and collaborations with world-class architects, major design publications, and several successful book projects.
