Chief Architect of Historic Monuments and Inspector General of Historic Monuments
Pierre-Antoine Gatier is a French architect and heritage conservation expert. A graduate of the École du Louvre and the École de Chaillot, he became Chief Architect of Historic Monuments in 1990 and later founded his own practice.
He has led major restoration projects across France and abroad, including historic monuments, 20th-century architectural works, and major landmarks such as the Château de Chantilly, Villa E-1027, the Opéra-Comique in Paris, and the Bourse de Commerce. He also worked on the restoration of the Eiffel Tower’s repainting campaign.
A leading figure in heritage preservation, he has served as President of ICOMOS France, taught at international architecture schools, and contributed to conservation projects following disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the 2017 Mexico earthquake.
