
Manuel Herz – Panelist
Founder and principal of Manuel Herz Architects
Manuel Herz is an architect based in Cologne and Basel, whose work explores the relationship between architecture, migration, diaspora, and urban transformation. He studied at RWTH Aachen and the Architectural Association in London, and has taught at institutions including the Bartlett School of Architecture, KTH Stockholm, ETH Studio Basel, and Harvard Graduate School of Design. His built work includes the Jewish Synagogue and Community Center in Mainz, while his research focuses on the architecture and urbanism of migration, refugee camps, and humanitarian action. Herz is the author and editor of several influential publications, including From Camp to City: Refugee Camps of the Western Sahara and African Modernism: Architecture of Independence. In 2016, he curated and designed the National Pavilion of Western Sahara at the Venice Architecture Biennale. His projects and research have been exhibited internationally and included in major collections, including MoMA.
