Founder of Openfabric
Francesco Garofalo is an Italian landscape architect and educator whose work explores the complex social, environmental and spatial dynamics of contemporary public urban spaces. Graduating with honors from the University of Genoa, he gained professional experience at leading Dutch firms including Mecanoo and KCAP, developing a design approach that treats landscape as an instrument for social awareness and climate adaptation. His career combines practice, research, and teaching across an international context. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano and a Design Critic at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, having previously taught at institutions like MIT and Cornell. Garofalo has been particularly active in Albania, leading urban implementation projects in Saranda and Berat, and developing regional agro-touristic visions for the southern Riviera.
